Plagiarism in Song and Music

Plagiarism. In general it means the taking of someones work or  idea. In music it can mean taking the lyrics or taking the same notes and rifts so the song melodies sound similar. Most of the time in music when people plagiarize they do not realize they are doing it because when they listen to certain music from their favorite artists people sometimes accidentally, subconsciously take the melody and incorporated it into their song .

The song "Brave" by Sara Bareilles is very similar to Katy Perry's " Roar". Many accused Katy for stealing the same melody as Sara's song "Brave".  Many Sara fans were upset that Katy stole her music .In all reality though both Sara and Katy are very good friends . Sara even tweeted to her fans saying that  she heard the song before it was released and she was very proud of her friend Katy.

Robin Thickes song " Blurred Lines " has plagiarized   the melody of " Marvin Gates " Got to Give it Up ". Gaye's estate and family has sued Robin Thicke. The melodies are exactly the same. As well as the tone of it . Robin Thicke claims they sound completely different . Every artist always says that . This song wasn't the only one that Robin Thicke was accused of plagiarizing.
